1. Congress: The 7th World Micromachine
Summit (Microsystems
/MEMS/MST) took place in Freiburg, Germany April 30 - May 2
with delegates from 15 world regions. Each delegation was
composed of four members. The Swiss delegation was headed by
APTE member Professor Nico de Rooij from the University of
Neuchâtel and included two further APTE members, Philippe
Fischer from the Swiss Foundation for Research in
Microtechnology and Gary Martini from the APTE Association
as well as Sean Neylon, CEO of Colibrys S.A. A further APTE
member, Dr. Kees Eijkel of the University of Twente in the
Netherlands, was part of the Benelux delegation.

2. The Swiss microsystems industry has
decided to link up
with research departments in order to increase its visibility
and establish a development strategy for the period 2004-2007.
The university of Neuchâtel will be the motor of this project
and head the steering committee. Main partners are the Federal
Polytechnics and APTE members CSEM; and MICROSWISS Network.

3. APTE partner events: Dr. Harold
Chipman of the APTE
Association was in Paris on May 9-11 to discuss and prepare
with our partner, the Chambre de Commerce Suisse France,
the next international APTERO which will be held in Paris
in September 2001. APTE members who are interested can

4. Forum: On June 25-26 2001, the Forum
for Swiss Economic
Affairs Abroad will take place at the World Trade Centre,
Zurich, in the presence of Federal Councillor Pascal
Couchepin. Topic: "Globalisation, Export and Business abroad".
Over 30 experts in Economics, Science and Diplomacy will
present and discuss relevant issues in talks, panels and
workshops.
The new guidelines for our APTE member Swiss Export and Trade
(OSEC) will also be presented.
