APTEinfo informs you regularly on projects and events
in the areas of technology, marketing, corporate financing
and networking. This service is based on communications
contributed by members and partners of the APTE
Association, an extensive knowledge and contact network.

1. Investment Opportunity in a Swiss Medical Device
Company: Best Qualified Product. Best Reputation.
High Growth Potential. First Round: CHF 1M / USD 600k

2. Micro-Electromechanical Systems (MEMS, also known
simply as microsystems - MST) combine electronics
with microscale mechanical devices, resulting in
microscopic machinery. Nano-Electromechanical Systems
(NEMS) are orders of magnitude smaller and are one of
the goals of nanotechnology. MEMS Center is part of
the Atomasoft Network Initiative, a network devoted
to the miniaturization revolution:

4. NIST Grants USD 25M for Development of Nano-
Technology. Standard MEMS Inc., in collaboration with
the Zyvex Corporation, announced the award of a five-
year NIST ATP (National Institute of Standards and
Technology Advanced Technology Program), which is
intended to accelerate the production and
commercialization of low-cost assemblers for micro
and nano-scale components and subsystems. Under this
program Standard MEMS, Inc., its joint venture partner
Zyvex Corporation, and technology focused university
collaborators will bring together their expertise to
develop low-cost, computer controlled, micro-scale
assemblers that will ultimately operate in parallel
to assemble three-dimensional micro-scale components.
The underlying belief of this collaboration is that
this process will eventually extend to nano-scale
assemblers. The Zyvex Corporation anticipates that
about USD 1B will be spent developing and applying
emerging nano-technology in Texas alone over the next
five years. The total potential market that this
program could impact is approximately USD 470B in the
U.S., and USD 1360B worldwide. The cumulative ten-
year economic benefit of this NIST-ATP program could
well exceed USD 90B for the U.S. and USD 265B
worldwide. Standard MEMS, Jenna Breitenbucher,
